In a world of selfies, Francis has brought back the autographs by sprinkling it like gold dust on top of a compelling story. Operating well within the comfort of a world that is familiar to him –Calcutta now Kolkata, the Jesuits of Xavier’s, popular culture – Francis crafts a sensitive, and for the most part genuinely moving story whose biggest strength is unarguably it’s characters.

There are no speed bumps in this story. It’s riveting as the link between the two time-lines unfold. The school boy protagonist and his friends are appropriately lovable as they fight to express themselves. The relationship between the two actors from the San Souci theatre is multi layered and evokes at times, tenderness, sympathy and contempt.
But the novel belongs to Vinny the mute Anglo- Indian teen. She’s not reduced to a part where readers feel sympathy. She is honest, unsparing and funny.
The Autograph Seeker hits the right notes and will earn Francis a place alongside seasoned writers of romance and humour. Worth the buy.

The innocence of pursuit of ‘autographs’ by a child reminds us all of the things we did as children to pursue ambitious fun goals without ever discouraging ourselves by saying ‘its not easy’ or ‘ how will I do it’ . Then we grow up and begin to feel fear of unchartered territory and we forget to have fun!  Such a book with a unique story and backdrop  will help anyone connect with the goal driven child that still resides within every adult.

The Autograph Seeker is a novel with ambitious ideas written with a lot of heart. You invest in the characters very quickly through their infatuations and ambitions, heart breaks and betrayal. There are some nice moments between the school boy and his mute friend who couldn’t be more dissimilar in their personalities. Bold and at times tender but original, Francis is going places with this novel.Great Buy.

Francis has put together a heady cocktail of enchanting school age romance , mesmerising nostalgia of the 80’s and 90’s , earthy experiences in the City of Joy and has flavoured it with the autographs of personalities who dominated that era .
He has got a creative , sensitive , entertaining and a brutally honest mind .

Francis’ narrative style not only makes you nostalgic about being a child but also juxtaposes the challenges of being an adult. Without doubt, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves a tale that warms the heart and stimulates the mind.

The Autograph Seeker has got a bestseller stamp all over it. From the witty dialogue exchanged between the characters, to the writers tendency to self-reference with the ‘Autographs’ and his skill at mining laughs from seemingly serious situations. What a ride.
